Doctor of Sciences in Law, Professor, Honored Lawyer of the Russian Federation, head of the Department of International and European Law at the Institute of Legislation and Comparative Law under the Government of the Russian Federation. From 1998 to 2012, he was Judge of the European Court of Human Rights. In 2023, he was appointed as a member of the Higher Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation. He is a member of the editorial boards of the scientific journals International Justice, Human Rights. The practice of the European Court of Human Rights and others. Corresponding member of the International Academy of Comparative Law, member of the International Association of Anthropology of Law and other scientific societies, as well as a substitute member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe from the Russian Federation. He has authored more than 200 scientific papers. Research interests: international and European law, human rights, comparative constitutional law, anthropology and ethnology of law.
